    Situated in northern Botswana, Chobe National Park is one of the country’s largest game reserves. Hosting a high concentration of animals, a visit to Chobe only increases your chances of viewing the elusive “Big 5.” The national park is home to a rare double opportunity: safaris on both land and water. Cruise down the gentle Chobe River to spot sunbathing crocodiles, splashing hippos, and elephants cooling down. Look to the low-lying branches for resting birds, scouring the water’s edge for tasty morsels. The adventure continues on land, where you may spot prowling feline kings weaving their way through the thick grass.     Day 1: Overnight Flight

    Day 2: Johannesburg, South Africa ­ Tour Begins

    Your adventure starts in Johannesburg – a vibrant city that revolves around modernity and a gold­mining history. As South Africa’s largest city, Johannesburg is home to a wide collection of cultures, museums, and attractions. Enjoy time to get settled on your own before tomorrow’s exploration into the wild.

     

    Day 3: Johannesburg ­ Pilanesberg National Park

    Leave the city behind and head to Pilanesberg National Park, a game reserve set within an ancient crater and where the lions reign as kings. This is the wild Africa you’ve always dreamt of – now laid out before you just waiting to be discovered. Venture out in a 4x4 in search of the “Big 5” across vast marshlands and craggy landscapes. Enjoy a drink at a traditional African sundowner and watch as the sun disappears behind the mountain. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 4: Pilanesberg National Park

    Before sunrise, in the open expanse of Pilanesberg, drive out in your 4x4 on a search for the elusive “Big 5.” Enjoy coffee and tea amongst the wildlife prior to your return. In the afternoon, drive past the big cats preparing for the hunt before you indulge in a bush dinner under the stars. Allow your mind to wander as you stare up at the sky in awe, marveling at the parade of stars and constellations only seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Today breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 5: Pilanesberg National Park

    Discover the wildlife around you with another full day in Pilanesberg. On morning and afternoon game drives, continue your search for the “Big 5” and other local animals, such as giraffes or cheetahs. Today breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 6: Pilanesberg National Park ­ Johannesburg ­ Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

    Fly to Victoria Falls* today – an awe­inspiring Natural Wonder of the World. When you arrive, check in to your lodge – an authentic African tent camp with all of the amenities of a luxury resort. This afternoon, when rainbows are at their best, witness the awesome power of Victoria Falls. As the sun sets and the animals gather around the watering hole, toast the stunning African landscape with a sundowner followed by dinner at your hotel. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 7: Victoria Falls

    Embark on an experience of a lifetime. Greet African elephants, spend some quality time interacting with them in their own habitat, and witness some of their unique behaviors. Then, experience an impact moment during our visit to the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust and learn how their programs are having a positive impact in the local communities and animals.

    After you’ve worked up an appetite, travel to a township where you will join a local family for a simple home­hosted lunch. Your evening continues with dinner on the shores of the Zambezi River overlooking Victoria Falls. Today breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 8: Victoria Falls ­ Chobe, Botswana

    Start your day with a visit to a traditional rural homestead where we will meet the village chief and understand more about traditional ways of living in this part of the world. Cross the border into Botswana and arrive in Chobe – an untamed national park whose namesake river twists its way throughout the area. During a captivating safari cruise along the Chobe River, spot elephants and hippos that linger along the shores, and crocodiles basking in the sun. Today breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 9: Chobe National Park

    On a game drive through Chobe National Park, take in diverse ecosystems and unparalleled biodiversity. After lunch, it’s your choice! Continue the wildlife search by land on an afternoon game drive ­OR­ venture down the river again for a different perspective on a safari cruise. Tonight, gather by the river for an unforgettable dinner. Learn the secret to cooking a traditional braai, complete with some local favorites and delicacies. Today breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

    The winelands of the Western Cape await. See for yourself why this area boasts a reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful wine countries. Head to Victoria Falls and board your flight to Cape Town, South Africa. A short drive takes you to the idyllic town of Stellenbosch – one of South Africa’s most famous wine regions. Settle in for a two­night stay among rolling vineyards and historic Cape Dutch architecture. Today breakfast will be included.

     

    Day 11: Stellenbosch ­ Franschhoek ­ Stellenbosch

    Sip the South African specialties with a full day exploring the country’s winelands. Start in the Stellenbosch Valley and enjoy a tasting at your first winery of the day. Perhaps you’ll try the local favorite, crossed between a Pinot Noir and a Cinsaut, the Pinotage is a specialty of South Africa. Travel to the charming village of Franschhoek for lunch. Take advantage of time at leisure before visiting a second winery in the afternoon. Cap the evening off with a dinner featuring locally­sourced ingredients. Today breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 12: Stellenbosch ­ Cape Town

    Say hello to Cape Town, South Africa’s electric cultural mecca that captivates you at every turn. Explore Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, a Cape Town hotspot. From heritage sites to historic landmarks, markets, shops, and restaurants, the waterfront is one of South Africa’s most compelling destinations. On arrival, rise gently over the South African landscape in a cable car to Table Mountain,** taking in views of Cape Town, Lions Head, and historic Robben Island. Return to the city via Table Bay. Pass through the Moorish Malay Quarter and pause at Milnerton Lighthouse. Today breakfast will be included.

     

    Day 13: Cape Town

    Travel to Cape Point, the southwestern tip of Africa. Marvel at the vibrant green foliage blanketing the rocky outcrops, set as a contrast to the bright blue waves below. Set out on an easy hike down the mountain, wandering by diverse patches of native flowers. Stop at Boulders Beach for the rarest of black­tie events – a rendezvous with endangered African penguins! Tonight, you’re an honored guest in a Capetonian family’s home. Over dinner, exchange stories and get to know what everyday life is like here in Cape Town. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 14: Cape Town

    Enjoy your final day at leisure before gathering with your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner to taste the country’s beloved flavors at dinner, starring a host of South African specialties and delicacies. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

     

    Day 15: Cape Town ­ Tour Ends

    Today you bid farewell to your fellow travelers when you leave beautiful Cape Town. Depending on your departure flight time, you will have access to a day room. Today breakfast will be included.

See the Jumeirah Mosque, the Palaces of the Sheikhs, and Dubai Creek. View the Al Bastakia old-wind tower houses built by wealthy merchants. Stop at Al Fahidi Fort, now the Dubai Museum. Visit Abra station and take a water ferry. Navigate the bustling alleys near the spice and gold souk markets. Embark on an exciting desert safari and ride aboard 4x4 vehicles over rolling sand dunes through the Dubai desert.     Today you arrive in Dubai, one of the world’s most exciting destinations. The remainder of your day is at leisure to relax or explore this dynamic and cosmopolitan city independently. As one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai is considered the shopping capital of the Middle East. With its many world-famous man­made structures built in recent years, Dubai is a must-see destination for any traveler and will surely be an experience you will always remember.

    Day 3: Dubai

    Dubai is a city that provides a new setting at every turn. Richly mixing together the old and the new, it’s a city of ages that rises out of the desert and crowns the gulf coast with its presence. This afternoon your route takes you to a magnificent view of Dubai Creek, passing by the heritage area of Bastakiya, with its fascinating old wind towered houses built by wealthy merchants. Visit the 180­year­old Al Fahidi Fort which today houses the Dubai Museum. Continue your journey by abra – a traditional water taxi – across the creek. Stroll through the spice and gold souks, the colorful bazaar markets. On your way to Burj Al Arab – one of Dubai’s landmarks – make a photo stop at Jumeirah Mosque. (B)


         Day 4: Dubai

    Your morning is at leisure. This afternoon your safari guide will take you into the golden sand dunes of Arabia on a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Experience the thrill of a lifetime while riding through the dunes. Enjoy a scenic sunset overlooking the desert. Continue to a Bedouin campsite where you can enjoy camel riding, Henna design, Arabic gava and a delicious barbecue dinner. During dinner, watch as an enchanting belly dancer performs to Arabic rhythms. (B, D)
